"The American band members Levi Stubbs, Renaldo ""Obie"" Benson, Lawrence Peyton and Abdul ""Duke"" Fakir started singing together in 1954. In 1963, the Four Tops were signed to the Motown Records jazz subsidiary Workshop. They band released the succesful single ""Baby I Need Your Lovin"" first, which introduced the group's strong harmonies and the soulful lead vocals of Levi Stubbs to the public. The following year, the band followed up with the single ""I Can't Help Myself"", which was also a major hit and established the Four Tops as one of Motown's most successful groups. The group continued to produce classic hits as ""Reach Out, I'll Be There"", ""It's The Same Old Song"" and ""Bernadette."" In 1967, the Four Tops began to widen their appeal with soul-tinged versions of pop hits, such as the Left Banke's ""Walk Away Renee"", Tim Hardin's ""If I Were A Carpenter"", ""It's All In The Game"" and the ballad ""Still Water (Love)"". After signing a new label in 1972, they continued their success, producing more of their mid-60s style songs. In the late 70s, the Four Tops had less succes with their releases, although they continued touring and performing their Motown hits. After a two years break, they returned on another label with a new worldwide hit ""When She Was My Girl"". In 1988, the band had another success with the singles ""Indestructible"" and ""Loco In Acapulco."" Today, The Four Tops are still wellknown for their stunning successful live acts, especially in the UK and Europe, where they are still incredibly popular."
