"Living Colour was originally formed as a trio in the US in 1984. This US rock band was composed of Vernon Reid (guitar), Muzz Skillings (bass) and William Calhoun (drums). The band was completed with the addition of vocalist Corey Glover. Living Colour had what it took to attract the attention of Mick Jagger. After seeing Living Colour perform at CBGBs Jagger began to support the group, producing two demos for the band in the following months. With these demos Living Colour were able to land them a contract under Epic Records. Vivid, the band's debut album climbed to number 6 in the US charts, gaining them recognition in the music community. The style of Living Colour comes from black roots like blues, soul and jazz with a touch of funk and rock.
In 1985 Living Colour was seen along side of the Black Rock Coalition, of which Reid was played a leading role. The band became a symbol of black music and rock. Two of their hits of that time included subtle political messages concerning the black community, ""Cult Of Personality"" and ""Open Letter (To A Landlord)"". Living Colour later joined the Rolling Stones on their Steel Wheels tour and subsequently won the Best New Band award from Rolling Stone magazine. The band released Time's Up in 1990, and won them another Grammy. The album was contributed to by their close friend Jagger and also Little Richard. Living Colour enjoyed their international success, going on a worldwide tour in 1991. The band replaced Muzz Skillings, after his departure, with bass player Doug Wimbish. Living Colour decided to dissolve in 1995 after the members decided they lacked the sense of unity and focus needed to continue. The group released, Pride, after they broke up. Reid established himself as a solo artist with a debut in 1996. "
