Her debut album, the largely self-written Baduizm, featured sounds that fluctuated between warm jazz textures and hip-hop and soul rhythms. Baduizm became a massive success and not earned Erykah Badu worldwide critical acclaim, but also brought her Grammy Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Album. Soon after, she was on the cover of the UK's Blues & Soul magazine, and was features in other major music magazines such as Vibe, Spin, Time, The Source and Rolling Stone. Erykah's debut album topped the R&B charts wordwide. Well known for here strong and excellent live performances, Badu followed up only a couple of monts after her debut, with a concert album. The album spawned the hit single ""Tyrone"", Live! Badu then decided to take a break to raise her newly-born son. However, she featured on hit singles by Busta Rhymes (""One"") and the Roots (""You Got Me""). Erykah Badu returned with a sophomore album Mama's Gun, which brought her back to the charts in 2000, thanks to the hit single ""Bag Lady""."
