"Cramps were started in Ohio, USA in 1976. Cramps band members Lux Interior, vocals, born Erick Lee Purkhiser; ""Poison Ivy"" Rorschach, guitar, born Kirsty Marlana Wallace; Bryan Gregory, guitar; and his sister, Pam Balam, drums, later moved to New York, where they were in the emerging punk scene. Nick Knox, born Nick Stephanoff, replaced Balam as the band's permanent drummer. The Cramps' early work was recorded at Sun Records studio. Their early singles and debut album blended the frantic rush of rockabilly with a dose of 60's garage-band flavour and a love of ghoulish b-movies. Bryan Gregory's sudden departure followed the release of the compulsive ""Drug Train"" single. Former Gun Club member Kid Congo Powers, born Brian Tristan, appeared on Psychedelic Jungle, but he later rejoined his colleagues and the Cramps subsequently employed several, often female, replacements, including Fur and Candy Del Mar Howe. The best examples of their work can be found on their early albums with songs such as ""You've Got Good Taste"", ""Human Fly"" and ""I'm Cramped' in the style of alternative rock music. Wary of outside manipulation, The Cramps continue to steer their own course by touring and recording. Their live shows have terrific entertainment value. In 1991, The Cramps re-emerged fronting a rejuvenated line-up with Slim Chance, bass, and Jim Sclavunos, drums."
